By now you have probably heard that lasers are the cutting edge of skin rejuvenation. IPL at Falls Church based Vitalia MedSpa treat a number of skin conditions.
Read more to learn about how IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments can change your skin.
What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) beautifies skin by using light to treat several distracting skin flaws. IPL can treat the following conditions:
- Sun Damage
- Age Spots
- Broken Blood Vessels
- Varicose Veins
- Hair on the face and various parts of the body
Your aesthetician can recommend how many treatments will be needed to produce your desired results.
How is IPL different from other Laser Therapies?
Laser therapies use one wavelength of light to target skin issues. By contrast, IPL essentially flashes several wavelengths of light at the same time.
IPL causes less damage to the top layer of your skin because its light quickly moves beyond the first (epidermis) to the second (dermis). Plus, IPL has light that is more scattered.
Pigment cells absorb the light and turn it into heat. The heat essentially destroys the excess pigment, making darker spots clear up. Darker spots can include freckles, birthmarks, melasma, and age spots.
IPL is not perfect for everyone. Those who are prone to keloid scars should probably avoid IPL. IPL doesn’t work as well on darker skin as it does on light skin. Conversely, IPL Falls Church works better on dark hair rather than light.
IPL is most effective when it is done in a number of sessions.
How Can I Prepare for IPL?
Our master aestheticians will discuss whether or not you have certain chronic conditions that could factor into your healing. These could range from eczema to inflammatory acne.
Beyond that, they will talk to you about how to prepare. You will be instructed to avoid:
- Direct sunlight
- Tanning Beds
- Collagen Injections
- Drugs that increase bleeding (ibuprofen, aspirin, etc.)
- Chemical Peels
- Creams or treatments that contain vitamin A, retinols, or glycolic acids
Following these directions ensure that your treatment will be the most effective.
How Much Does IPL Cost?
Just one IPL treatment in Falls Church can cost several hundred dollars. Right now Vitalia MedSpa is offering 4 IPL treatments for only $1,200.
