How does Botox Lip flip work?

When injected into the middle of the upper lip and corners of the mouth, Botox relaxes the muscles around the upper lip. This lets the lip flip upward and out, to give the appearance of fuller lips without adding volume with dermal fillers. Additionally, lip flip does wonders for reducing the appearance of “gummy smile.”

How is lip flip different from fillers?

Fillers plump the lips using synthetic gels or hyaluronic acid. Fillers are injected into the lip to give them added volume and structure. On the other hand, lip flip uses small amounts of Botox in the upper lip and corners of the mouth to cause the lip to turn slightly upward. The lips look plumper without adding any actual volume.

How long does Botox lip flip last?

Typically, a Botox lip flip will last around 3 months.

How quickly will I see results?

It takes around a week to see optimal results but many patients report seeing results sooner. However, while results are noticeable in comparison pictures, it is subtle enough to look very natural.

What is the recovery like?

Patients may experience minor swelling or bruising for a few days or notice a small bump at the injection site. Patients should avoid the following.

  • Putting pressure on the lips for around 3 days. This includes pressure from sleeping with lips resting on hands or pillows, or kissing
  • Rubbing the injected area for 24 hours
  • Exercising for a day or two
  • Sleeping face down for a few days
